Jan Lee Smith, age 75, of Ossian, passed away Friday morning, March 2, 2018, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Jan was born in Fort Wayne on March 7, 1942, to James and Donna (Weber) Lindley. She married David Edward Smith in Huntertown on August 1, 1959; he survives.
Jan was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She graduated from Huntertown High School in 1960. Jan attended Ossian United Methodist Church, where she was on the trustee board and a lay member to the annual conference. She also did missions work and was on the church council. Jan cross stitched, and truly had a love for many sports. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Jan was survived by two sons, Scott (Lisa) Smith of New Market AL, Todd Smith of Ossian; two daughters, Wendy (Kent) Gilbert of Ossian, Kathy (Tyler) Hiser of Logansport; a best friend, Valerie Fowler of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Privett, Nicole (Brian) Krieger, Raechel (Mark) Goodman, Alecia (Alex) Redenius, Christine Smith, Kiersten (Charles) Sell, Angela, Danielle and Benjamin Smith, Chelsea (Tyler) Sisco, Dustin Shinabery, Zachery and Michelle Smith and ten great-grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Randall Lynn Smith in 1975.
Visitation will be Monday, March 5, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 10:30 AM, at the Ossian United Methodist Church, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Pastor David Herr will officiate. Burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery in Wells County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ossian United Methodist Church, Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home: Music Therapy or Cancer Services of Fort Wayne.
