James F. Sands, 84, Bluffton, died at 7:59 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Oakbrook Village in Huntington. Born in Bluffton Dec. 30, 1928, to Floyd and Loretta (Dennis) Sands, he married Betty L. Foster on Sept. 26, 1953, in Bluffton; she died July 18, 2002. Jim was the owner of the Sands Contruction Co. of Bluffton. He was a 1946 Bluffton High Schoool graduate. Serving in the United States Navy from 1946-1957 and was a member of the Grover Sheets American Legion post 111 and the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters, Jill (Rex) Spencer of Bluffton, Julie Rollyn) Coverdale of Bluffton, Jennifer (Rob) Biggs of Fort Wayne, and Jayne Ivins of Bluffton; a son, Jon (Paula) Sands of Ossian; a sister, Peggy (Ed) Willette of Fort Wayne; a brother, Don Sands of Palm Springs, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob Sands. Mass of celebration will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 12 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1300 North Main St. Bluffton, by Fr. Francis C. Chukwuma. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Family LifeCare of Berne.
