James E.
Harvey
January 14, 1927 – February 7, 2018
James E. Harvey, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Feb. 7, 2018, at his daughter's home in Newark, WV, due to a brief illness.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1927, at home on the farm in Marion OH, to Ray Edward and Laura "Adith" (Foos) Harvey. James graduated from Cardington High School in Cardington, OH, in May of 1945. He was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps later that year. He served 17 months in Germany, Lahar, France, and the United States.
James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1948. He married Anita Marie Maxwell on Jan. 17, 1953 at Judson Baptist Church in Oak Park, IL; she preceded him in death on July 8, 1987. He then graduated from Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, TX.
In 1956, Anita and James moved to Bluffton, IN. After moving to Bluffton, James worked at Erie Stone Quarry, CTS of Berne, IN, and later retired from Franklin Electric in Bluffton in January of 1989, after 24 years of service.
On Oct. 28, 2006, James married Patricia Lou Stephens, at the Kanawha United Methodist Church in Davisville, WV; they resided in Parkersburg, WV. James spent his free time studying the Bible, working on cars, and working on early flywheel engines. He showed gas engines in Portland, IN, at the Tri State Gas Engine & Tractor Show for 50 years.
In addition to his wife Patricia, James is survived by a son, J. Scott Harvey of Bluffton; three daughters, Kae (Duane) Maxwell-Ulrich of Tucson, AZ, Martilou (Jim) Wright of Newark, WV, and Cynthia Marie Edwards of Choctaw, OK; grandsons, George M. Couch of New Haven, CT, and Joshua P. Couch of Tucson, AZ; a granddaughter, Danielle N. Edwards of Oklahoma City, OK; a brother, Rev. Ray Edwin Harvey of Kernersville, NC; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife and parents, James was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Harvey, Grace McMurray, Alice Griffith, Anna Mae Dewiel; and a brother, F. Marion Harvey.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, from 1:00 until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 10:30 AM, at Bethel Church in Bluffton, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Pastor Ron Garner will officiate. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, with military graveside rites provided by the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard.
