James M. Brown, 63, of Uniondale, died at 3:12 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Jay County, to James M. Brown and Ruth I. Myers Brown. He married Sally J. Bennett on Oct. 1, 1971, in Reiffsburg; his wife preceded him in death Jan. 9, 2016.

Mr. Brown was the owner/operator of Jim's Body Shop in Uniondale for many years. He was also the co-owner of J&D Sanitation.

His hobbies included jet boats, race cars, and restoring collector cars. He was an avid follower of the Montpelier Motor Speedway for several years.

Survivors include a son, Shane Brown of Uniondale; a daughter, Ruth Penrod of Bluffton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lisa (Mike) Fredrick of Murray; and a half-brother, Gary Wayne Brown of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by a sister, Sandy Betterton; and by a grandson, Christopher Penrod, on Feb. 6, 2017.

Calling will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Jim Poling officiating. Burial will be at the Horeb Cemetery near Uniondale.
