Obituary

Jack E. Schoeff, 80, of rural Bluffton, passed away at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on July 22, 1932, in Greentown to Floyd and Eugenia (Chism) Schoeff, he married Jayne E. Cobbum on Aug. 30, 1985, in Elizabethtown, Ky.; she survives. He was a 1950 graduate of Portland High School, where he participated on the basketball, football and baseball teams. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1955, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Jack was a forklift mechanic at General Electric in Fort Wayne, retiring after many years. He also served as the union president there. He helped start Bluffton Recycling and worked as a sales rep for Battery Power Systems in Fort Wayne. He attended the Bluffton First Church of Christ and was a member of the Bluffton American Legion Post 111. He was a past member of the Jaycees, was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and euchre. Jack was a big I.U. fan. Other survivors include three daughters, Stephenia E. (Don) Butterfield of Muncie, Melanie L. McKee of Bluffton, and Cindy M. (Todd) Sheetz of Waynetown; two sons, Scott (Gay) Schoeff of Bluffton and Everett G. Schoeff of Peru; three stepdaughters, Camela K. (Lee) Hanlon of Fort Wayne, Cheryl L. (Doug) Harris of Monroe, and Crystal R. (Steve) Lutz of Ossian; a stepson, Curtis A. (Lora) Schorey of Bluffton; two brothers, Donnie (Mary) Schoeff of Coushatta, La., and Boyd (Esther) Schoeff of Ossian; 20 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Pearl Schoeff, and one grandchild. Services will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Calling hours there are Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sunday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Burial rites will be provided by the U.S. Air Force in conjunction with the Bluffton American Legion Post 111. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare of Berne.
