Irene V. Wasson, 92, formerly of Lancaster Township, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. She was born in Huntington on April 11, 1920, to Charles H. Smith and Hazel I. Miller. She married Ner William Wasson in Craigville on May 3, 1938; he preceded her in death on March 18, 2006. Irene was a 1938 graduate of Lancaster Central High School and a farm wife who devoted her life to her husband of 68 years and her six daughters. She belonged to a home economics club and was a longtime member of the Lancaster Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, needlework and reading. In her six years at Heritage Pointe she played bingo, attended music programs and enjoyed coloring, word searches and M&M's. Surviving relatives include six daughters, Suzanne (David) Beeler of Camp Verde, Ariz., Janet (Rich) Johnson of Coldwater, Mich., Rosemary (Terry) Renbarger of Sweetser, Rebecca (Terry) Tyler of Nappanee, Debra (Don) Lockwood of Ossian and Merianne (Larry) DeWitt of Scottsburg; two sisters, Joyce Decker of Goldsboro, N.C. and Joan Malmstorm of Visalia, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, six step grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandcildren and three step great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Mitchell and Maxine Booker; one granddaughter, Jennifer Tyler; and one greatgranddaughter, Shasta Hauser. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Tyler and the Rev. Larry DeWitt officiating. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery, in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the Lancaster Chapel United Methodist Church or to Family Life Care.
