Irene E. Neuenschwander, 91, of Bluffton, passed away Thursday morning, June 22, 2017, at Christian Care Retirement Community.

Born in Adams County on Aug. 26, 1925, to Joe R. and Minnie Aeschliman Isch, Irene married John T. Neuenschwander in Bluffton on Nov. 20, 1949; he preceded her in death on June 17, 2013.

Irene was a graduate of Kirkland High School and a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.  Along with being a homemaker, she had once owned and operated the Snug Café in Bluffton and worked at the Dutch Mill Restaurant.  Her hobbies included fishing, playing cards, and baking cookies and pies, to which she was known by many as "The Cookie Lady".

Survivors include three sons, Randy (Judy) Neuenschwander of Berne, Michael (Candice) Neuenschwander of Bluffton, and Joe (Amy) Neuenschwander of Bowie, MD; a daughter, Linda (Jeff) McAfee of Berne; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucile Frauhiger of Bluffton, and Betty (Bill) Longenberger of Bluffton; and a brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Isch of Bluffton.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Lee Neuenschwander; two sisters, Mildred Krill and Viola Gerber; and three brothers, Ervin, Glen, and Hubert Isch.

Visitation will be Friday, June 23, 2017, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton.  Services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 10:30 AM, at the Apostolic Christian Church East, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County.
