Iona M. Bergman Evans, 89, of Bluffton, went to her Heavenly Home Wednesday morning, August 27, 2014, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Born in Liberty Center, IN, on November 21, 1924, to William E. and Melissa (Hutchinson) Wiley, Iona married Homer Donald Bergman in Wells County on January 8, 1943; he preceded her in death on May 31, 1989. Iona later married Robert C. Evans in Bluffton on August 17, 1991; he survives. A 1942 graduate of P. A. Allen High School, Iona was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton for more than 50 years, where she was involved in many areas, including church dinners. She had worked at the Estey Piano Company in Bluffton and then for Franklin Electric for 16 years, retiring in 1988. Iona was a strong Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother, who valued her family most of all. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and spending many of her winters in Bradenton, FL, with her husband. She was a talented cook, winning many pie contests, and will most be remembered for her selflessness and for her giving. Additional survivors include one son, Chris W. (Donna) Bergman of Plainfield; three daughters, Linda K. (Gene) Worman of Bluffton, Ardis Anne (Russ) Minton of Port Orange, FL, and Jean (Yuki) Takahashi of Okayama, Japan; two step-daughters, Char (Larry) Deck of Texas, and Connie (Gary) Johnston of Colorado. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Jason Worman, Lance Worman, Carmen Bergman , Melissa Sage, John Patterson, George Takahashi, Tom Takahashi, Carlye Johnston, Nathan Minton, Megan Beckett, Lori Simber, Tyler Deck, and Landon Deck; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one niece and one nephew. Aside from her parents and first husband, Iona was preceded in death by one brother, Besonia Wiley; one sister, Ermina Rosalene Wiley, and one nephew. A memorial service in celebration of Iona's life will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., at the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton. Friends and family are welcome to visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton at a later date. Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton has been entrusted with Iona's funeral arrangements. Per Iona's request, in lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton, Wells County Historical Society, or the Wells County Food & Clothing Bank.
