Howard L. Adkins, 67, Fort Wayne, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born in Muncie Feb. 3, 1948 to Arthur Owen and Hilda Alene (Clark) Adkins, he married Jean M. Meads June 14, 2005 at Calvary United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne; she survives. Mr. Adkins served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969. He retired from Franklin Electric in Bluffton after 30 years and also worked at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission from 2001 to 2008. He was a former member of American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and enjoyed woodworking, cooking and playing the guitar and the fiddle. He was the family's spiritual leader. Other survivors include a daughter, Tammy Wyatt (fiance, Jeff Meyer) of Bluffton; a son, Howard J. "Joe" Adkins of Ossian; a sister, Marilyn Young of Walling, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Blake Wyatt, Aaron Wyatt, Brenden Johnston, and Sheyanne Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Adkins; two brothers, Larry and Leroy Adkins; and a sister, Judy Young-Clark. Services will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bob Bothast officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Marine Honor Guard will conduct military rites following the service at the funeral home. Graveside rites and burial will take place Wed. at 3 p.m. at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
