Homer Melching, 87, of Bluffton, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2014, at Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton. Born on March 9, 1927, in Wells County, IN, to Frank and Verna (Kinsey) Melching, Homer married Lois V. "Ginger" Kleinknight in Bluffton on July 26, 1953; she preceded him in death on April 30, 2012. Homer served in the United States Army from 1945-1946 during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. He worked at Franklin Electric in Bluffton for 42 years, retiring in 1985. Survivors include one grandson, Brett (Jamie) Melching of Monroe, IN; one granddaughter, Tori Melching of Bluffton, IN; one great-grandson, Trace Melching; and a sister, Nina Meyer of North Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Aside from his parents and wife, Homer was preceded in death by his two sons, Thomas R. Melching and Jeffrey A. Melching; one brother, Ervin Melching; and three sisters, Minnie Melching, Mary (Poe) Gerber, and Elizabeth Poe. Visitation will be Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Services will be held immediately following the visitation at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, with Nile Bucher officiating. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Military graveside rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Post 111.
