Hershel A. Schwartz, 89, of Bluffton, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at River Terrace Estates. Hershel was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Zanesville to Glen A. and Ethel Motz Schwartz. He was a 1943 graduate of East Union High School . He owned Schwartz Motors in Bluffton for 30 years. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing. Hershel served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. Hershel was a member of the First Church of Christ and was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton. He married LaVerta Oldfield in Zanesville July 1, 1946. She preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2013. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Cynthia) DeHoff of Markle; a son, Robert (Diana) Schwartz of Syracuse; three grandchildren, James (Angie) DeHoff, Jeff (Candas) DeHoff, and Lindsay (Vince) Beasley; and five great-grandchildren. He was the last of his family. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Calling hours are from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville. The United States Army Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery, in conjunction with the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton, IN Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ in Bluffton.
