Harry "Dave" Thornburg, 77, of Decatur, died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Adams County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Thornburg was born in Olympia, Ky. on April 22, 1933, to Herbert and Bethel (Montjoy) Thornburg. He married Marie (LaTurner) Yoder in Wolcottville on Aug. 8, 1976; she survives. Mr. Thornburg served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 and the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur. He owned Dave's Tree Service for 20 years until 1979. He was a truck driver in Florida and retired from Propane Service in 1996. Surviving relatives include two sons, Harry David Thornburg of Anchorage, Alaska and David Lee Thornburg of Bluffton; three step daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Bauman of Monroe, Cathy Plasterer of Decatur and Karen (Jim) Crandall of Columbia City; one step son, Jeff (Linda) Yoder of Decatur; one sister Lonnie (Charles) Patterson of Dunkirk; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mr. Thornburg was preceded in death by one step daughter, Vicki Hurst; and one sister, EtaMae Phillips. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind. 124, Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial is at Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Monday, with military graveside rites. Preferred memorials are to the family.
