Harriet I. Lindsey, 88, of Bluffton, passed away at 2 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Christian Care Retirement Community. She was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio, to August Joseph "A.J." Horst and Sarah Jane (Marsh) Horst. She married Leon D. "Twig" Lindsey, Oct. 17, 1947, in Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2000. A 1942 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mrs. Lindsey was a housewife, and enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards with her friends at Blue Lake in Churubusco. She was a member of Mulberry Street Wesleyan Church and had recently been attending Epworth United Methodist Church in Bluffton. She was also a member of American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary in Bluffton. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Lynnette (Tim) Jones of Bluffton; a granddaughter, Tracy (Denny) Fiscus of Bluffton; a grandson, Dennis (Teresa)Gerwig of Bluffton; and two great-granddaughters, Lindsey Fiscus and Kassandra Gerwig, both of Bluffton. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Swigert, Betty Bushman and Phyllis McKinney. Calling hours will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Don Hosier officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Epworth United Methodist Church.
