Gerald "Shorty" Fiechter, 77, of Bluffton, who died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton. Mr. Fiechter was born on March 14, 1934, in Craigville, to John J. and Lydia A. (Gerber) Fiechter. He married Eunice A. Beer on April 1, 1956, in Milford; she survives. A 1952 graduate of Lancaster High School, Mr. Fiechter served in the U.S. Army from October 1956 to October 1958. He worked as a farmer. Other surviving relatives include two sons, Mike (Shari) Fiechter of Ossian and Doug (Jill) Fiechter of Craigville; one daughter, Teresa (Todd) Earney of Bluffton; one brother, Dale (Doris) Fiechter of Bluffton; one sister, Doris (Charles) Neuenschwander of Bluffton; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Fiechter was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin and John D. Fiechter; and six sisters, Alice Aschliman, Lillian Bertsch, Marie Drayer, Velma Kipfer, Mildred Neuenschwander and Irene Reinhard. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the church, with Ron Kipfer and John Reinhard officiating. Burial is at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
