George F. Nichols, 87, of Bluffton, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Nichols was born on May 25, 1924, in East Detroit, to George and Flossie (Bates) Nichols. He married Ruth S. Reinhardt on July 1, 1950, in East Detroit; she survives. A 1942 graduate of East Detroit High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He worked at Redman Motors in Owosso, Mich., and then in the computer department at Franklin Electric in Bluffton, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. George enjoyed playing golf and fishing, along with working with computers. He was an avid bird watcher and took care of the numerous bird feeders at Stoney Creek Estates. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Pam (Jim) Fivecoat of Owosso, Mich.; one son, Fred Nichols of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Jim (Terry) Nichols of Troy, Mich.; one sister, Joan Blackwell of East Point, Mich.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Eric Nichols. Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 1532 N. Main St., Bluffton. A Masonic service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Jerry O'Neal officiating. Burial is at Great Lakes National Cemetery, in Holly, Mich. Preferred memorials are to the Family Hospice and Palliative Care, Calvary Lutheran Church and Shriners' Children's Hospital. The Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton is in charge of arrangements.
