Gene L. Ruse, 64, of Bluffton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Sept. 3, 1949, in Hartford City to Milford B. Ruse and Opal P. Raber Ruse. He married Patti B. Kiger in Portland Feb. 20, 1971; she survives. Gene is a 1967 graduate of Southern Wells High School. He served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1980. Gene received his associate's degree in computer science from Ivy Tech and also graduated from the police academy in 1980. In 1987, he retired as a police officer from the Muncie Police Department and later worked as a service technician for Sears in Fort Wayne, retiring in 2006. He had attended Chester Center Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. Gene loved spending time with his grandchildren and also enjoyed genealogy. Additional survivors include a son, Bob D. Ruse of Muncie; three daughters, Tammy J. Dobbels of Decatur, Danielle L. (Jason) Dillard of Muncie, and Jennifer A. (Clete) Bailey of Markle; sisters, Maddie L. (Fred) Pernell of Bluffton and Addie L. (Don) Oswalt of Poneto; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Robbie R. Kemezy, and a grandson, Landen P. Bailey. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel. Calling hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. The Bluffton American Legion Post 111 will provide graveside rites.
