Gene L. Ireland, 69, of Bluffton, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at his home. Mr. Ireland worked at B.F. Goodrich at Woodburn for 21 years and at Corning Glass for 16 years. He was born Sept. 20, 1940, at Balbec, Ind., to Millard and Goldie Stephen Ireland. Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Todd of Warsaw and Patty (Gregg) Sorg of Muncie; a son, Brent (Erin) Ireland of Lancaster, OH.; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Phillips, Jermiah (Brandi) Phillips, Rickie Todd, Casey Todd, Brook Sorg, Macy Sorg, Taylor Sorg, Elizabeth Sorg, Jonathan Sorg, Catherine Sorg, and Trevor Ireland; two great-grandchildren, Savana Phillips and Layla Phillips; a brother, Dean (Emma) Ireland of Bluffton; and two sisters, Ramona McMaken of Birmingham, Mich., and Marlene (Ed) Risser of Bluffton. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Lee Ireland. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Patrick Harris officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the People of Praise in Muncie.
