Frederick D. Sprunger, 95, died at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton. Mr. Sprunger was a quality engineer for Franklin Electric in Bluffton and Siloam Springs, Ark. He was employed by Franklin Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was a 1937 graduate of Bluffton High School and attended Purdue University. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Bluffton and taught adult Sunday School classes at First Reformed Church in Bluffton and at First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs, Ark., for 30 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post 111, and was an honorary Rotarian. Mr. Sprunger was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Berne, to Otto Sprunger and Lila Lehman Sprunger. He married Dorothy Maddux April 6, 1941, in Bluffton; his wife preceded him in death Sept. 13, 2013. Survivors include a son, F. Thomas (Barbara) Sprunger of Jenks, Okla.; a daughter, Susan (Steve) Hart of Huntington; five grandchildren, Charles (Lynette) Hart, David (Eugenia) Hart, Emily (Mike) Smith, Daniel (Melissa) Sprunger, and Mitchell (Heather) Sprunger; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Vaughn (Arlene) Sprunger of Berne. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orson Sprunger, Adrian Sprunger, and Curtis Sprunger. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bryson Bell and Pastor Jerry Qualls officiating. Calling will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Six Mile Cemetery. The U.S. Air Force and American Legion Post 111 will conduct military graveside services. Preferred memorials are to First Reformed Church of Bluffton.
