Fred R. Rupel Sr., 89, of Bluffton, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, 2017, at Christian Care Retirement Community.

Born on Aug. 4, 1927, in Jay County, to Vernon and Bessie LeFever Rupel, Fred married Martha G. Fenters in Fort Recovery, OH, on Aug. 21, 1954; she survives.

Fred worked at Franklin Electric as a press operator for over 40 years.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed any type of racing.  He and his wife especially enjoyed going to Walmart and eating out at the Richard's Restaurant.

In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by two daughters, Rachel Martin of Pierceton, and Lois (Jerry) Murray of Bluffton; a son, Fred R. (Rhonda) Rupel Jr. of Bluffton; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Lydia Murray; and a great-grandson, Mason Melton.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, with a funeral service starting immediately after visitation at 2:00 PM. Pastor Adam Carroll will officiate.  Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children.
