Francis W. Leist, 93, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born July 28, 1920, in Wells County, to John and Mary Vancamp Leist. He married Esther A. Snider Leist in Bluffton June 28, 1943; she preceded him in death July 13, 1993. Francis served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a graduate of Bluffton High School. He later worked as a foreman at Kresge for over 30 years. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Leist of Roanoke and Betty Jackson of Bloomington, and a son, Robert Leist of Zanesville. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Leist; two brothers, Ben and James "Newt" Leist; and two sisters, Goldie Sparks and Mary Schum. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel. Calling is an hour prior to the service at the funeral home Saturday. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. Graveside rites will be provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard in conjunction with the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. Memorial contributions can be made out to the donor's choice.
