Frances E. Bertsch, 89, Bluffton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at Christian Care Retirement Community. She was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., to Benjamin C. Maibach and Lucile V. Harbourne Maibach. She married Harve E. Bertsch Sept. 18, 1955, in Detroit; he preceded her in death June 29, 1981. Frances graduated from Redford High School in Detroit in 1945 and studied for two years at the Detroit Business Institute. She was a bookkeeper at Detroit Bank for nine years and worked for the Welfare Department of Wells County for 15 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Bluffton. She was a huge Detroit TIgers baseball fan and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Chris) DesJean of Decatur; four sons, Jack (Mary) Bertsch of Decatur, David (Kim) Bertsch of Bluffton, Charles Bertsch of Bluffton, and Jeffrey (Carolyn) Bertsch of Ossian; 15 grandchildren, Janelle (Dan) Plasterer, Ryan DesJean, Korey (Jennifer) Huss, Steffanie (Ben) Powers, Rebekah, Joshua, Andrew, Rachel, Brianna, Abigail, Kellyn, Caleb, and Emily Bertsch, and Noah and Skylar Steffen; and five great-grandchildren, Olivia Plasterer, Bennett Plasterer, Hayden Huss, Morgan Huss, and Nathan Powers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Mailbach Jr., and a sister, Donna M. Weber,and a granddaughter, Erika Bertsch. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel. Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 30, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
