Evelyn P. Hilsmier, 97, a native of rural Ossian, was called to be with her Lord and her husband Laurel Hilsmier Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Emeritus Senior Living in Fort Wayne. Evelyn was born at home in rural Ossian July 15, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Rheua and Chloe (Snyder) Valentine. On Feb. 26, 1938, she married Laurel W. Hilsmier at her parents' home in rural Ossian; he passed Sept. 26, 2011. She was a homemaker and a former department manager for the Sears & Roebuck Co. in Fort Wayne and a member of the Ossian United Methodist Church. She attended the Beck School and was a 1934 Ossian High graduate. She lived a long life and will be missed by her family and friends. Surviving is one son, Lowell W. Hilsmier of Angola; a daughter, Constance D. (Kenneth) Boehm of Orland Park, Ill.; two sisters, Pauline M. Miller of Carlisle, Penn., and Joan P. Nau of New Haven; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Ossian United Methodist Church, 201 W. Mill St., Ossian,under the direction of Pastor Doug Barber. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind. 124, Bluffton.
