Former Craigville resident, Evelyn I. Gerber, 91, of Berne, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Swiss Village. Mrs. Gerber was born in Wells County on Feb. 7, 1918 to Charles H. "Joe" and Clara L. (Baumgartner) Heche. She married Arthur M. Gerber in Wells County on June 30, 1939; he survives.A 1936 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mrs. Gerber was a housewife and enjoyed playing the piano. She and her husband would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June. Other surviving relatives include two daughters, Elaine (Gene) Baumgartner of Syracuse and LuAnn (Lew) Derrickson of Indianapolis; one son, Kelly Gerber of San Francisco; eight grandchildren, Jana (Dean) Foust, Tamya (Jim) Fox, Dana (Jeff) Bluhm, Kara (Monte) Dehne, JB (Courtney) Baumgartner, Kristen (Kurt) Martens, Todd (Jane) Higgins and Rodd Higgins; and 22 greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Gerber was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Heche. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with Pastor Roger Abels officiating. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial is at Six Mile Cemetery, in Bluffton.
