Evelyn L. Brown, 84, of Bluffton, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Mrs. Brown was a farmer's wife who also worked for 10 yeas at Corning Glass. She was a volunteer at Bargain Hut. She was a 1944 graduate of Bluffton High School and was a member of the First Reformed Church in Bluffton. She was born March 22, 1926, in Vera Cruz, to Floyd Knox and Mildred Gifford Knox. She married Vernon H. Brown Sept. 1, 1945, in Shelbyville; her husband preceded her in death June 5, 1997. Survivors include a son, Ted (Diane) Brown of Bluffton; two grandchildren, Michelle (Tony) Mills of Bluffton and Chris (Stacey) Brown of Huntertown; three great-grandchildren, Karissa Mills, Kyler Mills, and Ashlyn Mills; and a brother, Francis "Tom" Knox of Kokomo. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Horace "Bud" Knox, and a sister, Hazel Stebing. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bryson E. Bell officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to First Reformed Church of Bluffton.
