Doris Valeria Merkey, 102, of Bluffton, passed away early Sunday morning, May 13, 2018, at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Valeria was born in Lancaster Township on Oct. 12, 1915, to Virgil and Mary (Schell) Campbell.  She married John L. Merkey in Newport, KY, on Oct. 24, 1936; he preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1989.

Valeria farmed with her husband John for 30 years until they retired and moved to Barbee Lake in Northern Indiana.  After 30 years of living on the lake, Valeria spent that last 20 years of her life back in Bluffton.  She was a long time member of the First Reformed Church in Bluffton and a past member of the Poplar Grove Club.

Survivors include her son, Donald (Betty) Lockwood of Bluffton; a grandson, Don (Deb) Lockwood of Ossian; a granddaughter, Deb (Stan) Kunkel of Bluffton; two great-granddaughters, Lindsay (Bart) Comer and Chelsea Kunkel; two great-grandsons, Kyle (Marci) Lockwood and Brent (Danielle) Kunkel; and nine great-great grandchildren, Lia Comer, Wrigley, Emry, Soldier, and Canon Lockwood, and Cora, Wesley, Eliza, and Harrison Kunkel.

In addition to her husband and parents, Valeria was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Campbell; and a sister, Ruth Julian.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton.  Services will be held on Friday, May 18th, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.  Dr. Bryson E. Bell will officiate.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.
