Delmar "Jim" W. Jeffries, 87, of Bluffton, died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton. Mr. Jeffires was born in Bluffton on Dec. 8, 1924, to Delmar H. and Clara (Abbott) Jeffries. He married Betty J. Stout in Reiffsburg on June 30, 1951; she preceded him in death on April 8, 2004. A 1942 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mr. Jeffries served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1946, and was stationed in Germany. He worked at the Kmart warehouse in Fort Wayne for 37 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bluffton and American Legion Post 111. Mr. Jeffries enjoyed attending Bluffton High School basketball games, to which he held season tickets for 64 years. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Ruth Ann (Richard) Ward of Manton, Mich. Mr. Jeffries was also preceded in death by a son, James H. Jeffries. Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at the funeral home with Pastor Bud Abrams officiating. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will assist with graveside rites. Preferred memorials are to American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton.
