Della M. Smallman, 72, Bluffton, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at her residence. Born in Hignight, Ky. on July 2, 1938 to James I. and Emmer K. (Upton) Jackson, she married Carl R. Smallman Jr. on Sept. 24, 1958 in Balkin, Ky.; he survives. Mrs. Smallman was a housekeeper at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center for 31 years, retiring in April, 2010. The family lived in Albion, Mich. from 1958 until 1973 when they moved to Bluffton. She was a member of the Church of God in Bluffton and the Bluffton Women's Bowling League. She loved gardening and bird watching and was an avid card player. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, DeeAnna Smallman, and a son, James W. Smallman, both of Ashley; three sisters, Elizabeth Klising, Cincinnati, Ohio, Louise (Larry) Ervin of Monticello, and Julie (Don) Wells of Houston, Texas; a brother, James D. Jackson of Louisville, Ky.; two grandsons, Jason R. Stiffler of Bluffton and Adam M. Stiffler of New Jersey; and two great-grandchilden, Jason R. Stiffler II and Angel Nicole Stiffler. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl R. Smallman, Jr. who died on March 9, 2007; and a sister, Dora Cornelius, who died in 2007. Services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with James Poling officiating. Calling hours at Goodwin's are Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the American Lung Association and Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center.
