Obituary

David A. Baumgartner, 78, of Bluffton, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend to all, passed away Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Bluffton on January 8, 1948, to Paul N. and Justine L. (Liechty) Baumgartner. Both parents preceded him in death. David attended Vera Cruz School, which his parents helped establish in 1955.

A lifelong attendee of the Apostolic Christian Church, David spent much of his life helping run the family farm, as well as assisting his dad with his carpentry business. He prided himself on his beautiful singing voice and his strong muscles.

David enjoyed spending time with his Bi-County family, golf cart rides jamming to Elvis, doing puzzles, front porch sitting, bird watching, and tending to the yard and garden. He was a jokester, a friend to all, and a dear and beloved uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle. He was a pure and precious soul and will be greatly missed by both his biological family and his Bi-County family, who gave David the gift of safety, stability, and a beautiful life.

David’s life could best be honored by living the sentiment, “In a life where you can be anything, be kind.”

Survivors include his brother, Dennie Baumgartner of Berne; two nieces, Heidi (Darren) Kloepper of Bluffton and Holly (Shawn Swartz) Baumgartner of Asheville, NC; great nieces, Sequoia Baumgartner, Madison (Samuel) Hidalgo, Caroline Kloepper, and Sarah Jane Kloepper; great nephews, Elijah (Caroline) Baumgartner, Joseph, Daniel, William, and Tate Kloepper; a great-great nephew, Elliot Hidalgo; and great-great nieces, Savannah, Delany, and Adeline Hidalgo.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sarah J. Baumgartner.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 2:00 until 7:00 PM, at Goodwin – Harnish Funeral Home in Bluffton. Services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at the Apostolic Christian Church East, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Ministers of the church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County.

Because the family is truly grateful for the loving care and support of Bi-County Services, memorial contributions can be made in David’s memory directly to Bi-County.
