Charles H. Oswalt, 76, Poneto, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1935, in Poneto to Faye and Minerva "Nervi" Gustin Oswalt. He married Ruth E. Moser in Berne Nov. 22, 1963. She survives. Charles retired from Meshberger Stone Corporation in 2002. Prior to working at Meshberger, he worked in the family business in the 1960s, Oswalt Feed Mill in Poneto. He was a 1954 graduate of Liberty Center High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served from 1959-61. Charles liked building and working with anything mechanical, a skill that served him well in his job at Meshberger. He enjoyed sharing his mechanical skills with young people, and family was very important to him. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Oswalt of Poneto and Julie M. (Glen) Werling of Ossian.; two sisters, Ruth Ann Nusbaumer of rural Keystone, and Marge Brewster of Linn Grove; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Nathanael Werling. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gustin and Glendon Oswalt, and two sisters, Vera Alfeld and JoAnn McFarren. Calling will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Officiant will be Pastor Roy Nevil of the Poneto United Methodist Church and burial will follow at Stahl Cemetery north of Petroleum. American Legion Post 111 will conduct military graveside rites. Memorials may be made to the Poneto Food Pantry at the Poneto United Methodist Church or to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Fort Wayne.
