Charles G. "Bud" Mowery, 83, of Bluffton, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Mr. Mowery was born in Bluffton on Aug. 11, 1925 to Gilbert and Grace Miller Mowery. He married Jean Sloderbeck in Bluffton on April 27, 1947; she survives. A 1943 graduate of Chester Center, Mr. Mowery worked in the inspection department at Franklin Electric for 30 years. He was a member of the Liberty Center Fire Department for over 30 years, and a volunteer nursing home worker and driver. He was also a member of the First Reformed Church. Other surviving relatives include one son, Neil (Karen) Mowery of Bluffton; one daughter, Carol (James) Oliver of Bluffton; and four grandchildren, Kurt Oliver, Scott Oliver, Amy Mowery and Abby (Jayde) Steffen, all of Bluffton; Mr. Mowery was also preceded in death by one sister, Blenda Harrold. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with Dr. Bryson Bell officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the church.
