Obituary

Carolyn Sarah Zimmerman, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 16, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor in Indianapolis.

Carolyn was born in Bluffton on Mar. 27, 1933, to Dwight and Alta (Studebaker) Maddux.  She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1951 and later that year met Jack R. Zimmerman while training at Methodist Hospital.  Carolyn and Jack were later married in Wolcottville in 1953.

Carolyn left nursing school to begin her job as a career military wife.  She and Jack lived in various locations in the United States as well as England.  She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. while she and Jack raised their three children.  Of all the many places they lived, she most enjoyed England and California.  A few times Carolyn took care of her family while Jack did overseas tours in Thailand and Vietnam.

After Jack retired from the military and continued his career in civil service, they lived in Indianapolis and later Washington D.C.  Carolyn and Jack would spend weekends traveling throughout the D.C. area and it was during that time they both became interested in traveling to presidential birth places, libraries, and even historic lighthouses.

When Carolyn and Jack eventually retired from working, they returned to Indianapolis to be close to their family, all while continuing to travel the world.

In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by a son, David Zimmerman of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Himes and Kristine (Michael) Cassidy, both of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Stinson.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at noon, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, with public visitation one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Clark Stoller will officiate.  Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
