Bernard E. Zimmerman, 93, of Berne and formerly of Wells County, died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Swiss Village Retirement Community. Mr. Zimmerman was born in Portland on July 19, 1915 to Noah and Laura (Wiegand) Zimmerman. He married Betty Studebaker in Bluffton on Nov. 3, 1956; she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2005. Mr. Zimmerman worked as a welder at Franklin Electric, retiring after 24 years service in 1977. He attended West Berne Missionary Church. Surviving relatives include one son, Clarence (Beverly) Zimmerman of Bluffton; and one grandson, Eric Zimmerman of Bluffton. Mr. Zimmerman was also preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude Gillette; and one brother, Arlo Zimmerman. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Sheets and Pastor Fred Woodward officiating. Calling hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial is at the M.R.E. Cemetery, in Berne.
