Arthur M. Gerber, 97, passed away Wednesday morning, August 12, 2015, at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne, IN. Born in Wells County, on October 27, 1917, to Samuel and Nettie (Neuenschwander) Gerber, he married Evelyn I. Heche in Wells County on June 30, 1939; she preceded him in death on March 19, 2009. Arthur was a successful businessman and entrepreneur in the Wells County community. Early in life he and his brothers, Ervin and Walter, were co-owners of the Gerber Locker Plant in Craigville. He then co-founded Blue Flame Gas Company in Bluffton and in his later years was a real estate developer in the Bluffton area. He will be remembered for his strong Christian faith, and for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid horse lover, who especially enjoyed breeding and raising Appaloosa horses. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine (Gene) Baumgartner of Syracuse, IN, and LuAnn (Lew) Derrickson of Naples, FL; a son, Kelly Gerber of San Francisco, CA; eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia Frauhiger of Bluffton. Aside from his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ervin, Herman, Walter, Ralph O., Clifford, Glen, and Kenneth Gerber; and four sisters, Viola Ringger, Naomi Ringger, Frieda Steffen, and Mahilda Kaehr. Visitation will be Friday, August 14, 2015, from 1:00 until 7:00 PM at Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Roger Abels will be officiating. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Memorial contributions in Arthur's memory may be given to the donor's choice.
