Obituary

Gladys "Anne" Miner, 82, of Bluffton, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 30, 2016, Signature Healthcare in Bluffton, with her family by her side.

Born in Wilsondale, WV, on May 16, 1934, to Darby Kelly Vance and Francis (Farley) Vance; she married Edward Eugene Clifton on Oct. 9, 1958; he preceded her in death on July 26, 1972.  Anne later married Dr. Richard W. Miner DC, in Bluffton on Nov. 19, 1977; he preceded her in death on Mar. 28, 2008.

Earning her bachelor's degree from Kentucky Christian College in 1955, Anne then went on to teach the third grade for five years at Mountain Mission School in Grundy, VA.  She later worked as a surgical nurse at Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton for 18 years, before her retirement in 1988.  She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Bluffton.

Anne enjoyed painting and will also be remembered for her love of gardening and for her beautiful flower gardens at her home.  She was a loving mother and grandma, who was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Vance (Karen) Clifton of Pueblo, CO; a daughter, Ruie (Tim) Penrod of Bluffton; two step-sons, John W. (Linda) Miner of Arizona, and Jeffrey R. (Virginia) Miner of Brooklyn, NY; and eight grandchildren, Kellon (Jordan) Holsinger, Ashlie (Matt) Campbell, Cheyanne Penrod, Shannon Penrod, Samantha Clifton, Kathryn Miner, Linda Miner, and Amanda Miner.  She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Jane (Bruce) Sutton of Mt. Ida, AR, and Loretta Krogstad of Shepherdstown, WV.

In additions to her parents and husbands, Anne was preceded in death by a grandson, Jake Clifton in 2011; four brothers, Henry, Locie, Richard, and Homer Vance; and a sister, Matilda Vance.

Friends and family are welcome to gather and share memories of Anne on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, from 3:00 until 6:00 PM, at the First Church of Christ Fellowship Hall in Bluffton.  Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Church of Christ.
