Obituary

A. "Alfie" Wayne Sturgeon, 88, of Bluffton, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton. He was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Bluffton, to Hugh L. and Jemina E. (Kleinknight) Sturgeon. A 1944 Bluffton High School graduate, he was a farmer and also served on the Wells County Hospital Building Board. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1945 to Oct. 1946 in the European Theater and was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and VFW Post 2809. He is survived by two nephews, Jim (Carol) Sturgeon and Stephen (Linda) Sturgeon, both of Bluffton; a niece, Beth (Bryan) Zukowski of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; three great-nephews, Caleb Geiser, Matthew Sturgeon and Aaron Sturgeon, all of Bluffton; and a great-niece, Hilary Gaiser of Boston, Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Sturgeon; and a sister, Ruth Potts. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, with Dr. Bryson E. Bell officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, and American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Army will conduct military graveside rites.
